Inspired by the isolation and quarantine experienced worldwide over the past two years, particularly during Shanghai’s ‘zero COVID’ lockdown in 2022, this work reflects on the unpredictable nature of time amidst ongoing uncertainty. The pandemic will not truly end until it is over everywhere, as noted by the WHO.
During lockdown, life felt suspended, akin to a broken clock, where ‘time’ became a meaningless number overshadowed by the unknown. Daily routines shifted, creating internal chaos—a deconstruction and refactoring of our biological clocks.
In our isolated spaces, time flows differently; it becomes an opportunity for self-reflection and personal redefinition. Rather than being measured in seconds, minutes, or days, time can be understood through the soul, allowing us to break free from conventional constraints.
